"Rich mocha, black cherry and blueberry notes fill the nose of this Cabernet Sauvignon. The mouth is richly textured with supple tannins and wonderful fruit density filled with flavors of ripe blackberries, chocolate, coffee and smoky oak."

Vineyards
Sonoma County's coastal climate, soils and complex terrain of small valleys, benchlands and hillsides interact to create prime conditions for growing grapes. This diversity of growing conditions enables several grape varieties to excel in the region, including Cabernet Sauvignon. For this bottling, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc grapes were selected from vineyards in the Alexander Valley, Knights Valley, Sonoma Valley and Dry Creek appellations of Sonoma County to craft this superior Cabernet Sauvignon.

Winemaking
This wine consists of Cabernet Sauvignon (91%) blended with Cabernet Franc (7%), Merlot (1%), and Petit Verdot (1%). Each component was aged separately for 16 months in French and American oak before blending. Once the barrel selection was made, the wine was assembled and bottled.

The Wine Advocate
Rated 90.
“Chateau St. Jean’s Cabernet Sauvignons demonstrate what Sonoma fruit can produce with this varietal...It possesses loads of fruit, good body, and nicely integrated wood as well as tannin in the long finish. This excellent Cabernet may merit an outstanding score in a year or two.”

California Grapevine
Highly Recommended. “Spicy, red currant and black cherry fruit aroma with hints of dill and mocha; rich, textured, toasty, black cherry and blackberry flavors…lingering aftertaste.” February/March 2004
