"I hope we shall be taught to copy his example and
to prefer the love of liberty in this time of public danger to all the soft
pleasures of domestic life and support ourselves with manly fortitude amidst all
the dangers and hardships that attend a state of war."
Nathanael Greene from the book 1776 by David McCullough
“General
Kragle considered him the most immoral and destructive leader in the nation's
225-yeaar history. While President of the United States, he had been impeached
but not convicted. He had been convicted, however, of perjury and other
crimes and accused, sometimes with cause, of everything from murder and bribery
to violations of campaign law and selling nuclear secrets to the Chinese.
He had kept the peace all right-by kowtowing to and kissing
the ass of every two-bit ragtag despot or would-be guerrilla terrorist in the
world. It was he, in the General's opinion, who personally elevated Yasser
Arafat from an aging cold-blooded terrorist to the statue of a world leader."
From Operation Deep Steel by Charles W. Sasser
Pets:
We have a cat named Gilead. Gilead is an orange tabby we found by the road. Apparently he had been dropped off in the country. He was named Gilead by our daughter because he was a great comfort to us as we lost two cats, one to coyotes and another to illness. Gilead now weights 17 pounds and is not fat, just a large cat. We also had a rooster, Chanticleer. Chanticleer is blind in one eye. He wandered onto our property four years ago and lived in the woods beside our house. He was here for about two years and has moved on to a farm in the area.
Research Interests:
Dr. Long is an adjunct professor and participates in research with the Optical Materials Group at Fisk University. The Optical Materials Group is involved with the development of new optical materials for applications in the areas of lasers, waveguide devices, and biosensors. Materials being studied include rare-earth and transition-metal doped glasses and glass-ceramics for waveguide devices, porous glass-ceramics for biomedical applications, and (in collaboration with the Materials Science and Applications Group) transition-metal doped II-VI semiconductor crystals which are promising materials for near-infrared laser applications. For additional information about the Fisk University Physics Department go to www.fisk.edu/physics.
